Single Serve Cup Thoughts from a Highly Caffeinated Coffee Roaster!

A traditional K-Cup* contains 10 grams of coffee. Our new Single Serve Cup has a deeper, wider filter with more pronounced fluting, which allows more room for coffee. Our listed net weight of 13.3 grams is the minimum amount of coffee in our Single Serve Cup, but we normally squeeze in more. Extra coffee yields improved extraction, body, strength and flavor.

Our custom refrigerated grinder & densifier allows hot water to course evenly through the grounds, maximizing extraction. The missing coffee dust which normally retards the flow of water is absent, yielding fuller flavor extraction with less bitterness.

Note: If your brewer allows you to increase the water temp a few degrees, please do so. The increased water temp will yield a better, fuller, more developed cup of coffee.

Single Serve Cup Varieties, Ranked by Roast Color (Lightest to Darkest)

Colombian Breakfast: Colombian coffee has become ubiquitous. As a country Colombia reserves their better coffees for export. They have a limited selection of Specialty Grade higher quality coffees, and that quality is what goes into our single serve cups. Words like “Colombian Blend” should be avoided. Besides lowering the cost and quality, why blend another coffee into what should be a pure varietal? Those round cans of pre-ground Colombian coffee are disappointing because they start out as lower quality coffee beans. We only roast specialty grade Colombian Nariño for our 5 pound and single serve cup programs. This medium roast coffee will pull you out of bed and will not disappoint.

Organic House: Our House Blend is certified organic coffee. We carefully blend certified organic coffees together to obtain a balanced profile possessing a hearty body and a pleasing hint of natural sweetness. This is a more full medium roast.

Sumatra Mandheling: Sumatra is a hard dense coffee bean. To fully develop the complex profile of this legendairy coffee a longer and slower roast profile is required. This medium dark roast is fully developed and reveals the complex savory flavors of Indonesian coffees. The longer slower roast yields a full bodied cup with a naturally lower acidity. This is not a clean, sweet, single note coffee. The flavor profile is complex, earthy and satisfying. Medium to dark roast.

French Roast: This is our darkest roast. We slow the roaster down and make sure the beans do not burn or char. Burned tasting coffee is the result of not controlling the roast temps and air flows at the end of the roast. Coffee becomes exothermic, which means as it gets darker, it begins generating its own heat. It is critical to control the airflow within the roaster because starving the roast chamber of oxygen allows a slow roast to finish without a burned profile. Our old school direct fired drum roaster makes the best French Roast. This is a dark roast coffee.

Decaf French Roast: This full-bodied dark roast does not reveal itself as a decaf. It will fool everyone after dinner. It presents a big coffee profile but without the caffeine.

Our flavored coffees start out as a medium roast House Blend. Then we add natural flavorings:

Natural Vanilla Bean: We flavor our medium house blend with natural vanilla flavoring. You will find the vanilla a pleasant relief from all the artificially flavored coffees on the market.

Natural Pumpkin Spice: We use our medium house blend and flavor it with natural pumpkin spice flavoring. This natural flavoring will put a smile on your face.  We offer this flavored coffee year-round. Why only have it for the holidays?

Natural Vanilla Decaf: We take our Colombian Decaf and add Natural Vanilla Flavoring to the coffee while it is still warm from the roaster. The roast is a medium in color which shows off the Natural Vanilla Flavors well.
